About Stamford Cancer Support Group
Stamford Cancer Support Group started in 2024 to address a need for those affected by cancer in the Stamford area.
We are a not for profit group which was set up by Joan Richardson in 2024. Joan visited groups in Peterborough and Oakham and decided to start a support group in Stamford after contacting health professionals and voluntary groups in Stamford and canvassing friends and family.
Many support groups cater for a specific type of cancer but we decided to cater for all types of cancer at the Stamford Cancer Support Group.
We meet once a month, in the afternoon, at the Stamford Day Centre and also hold a monthly walk in Burghley Park on a Saturday so that people who return to work after treatment can still keep in touch with members. We also hold group events such as picnics and fund raising events.
We are a mixed bunch of people. Men, women, their friends and families. Cancer doesn't just affect the individual. It affects those close to them and we welcome anyone who would like to talk with other people who may have answers to those questions you didn't know you needed to ask.
If you'd like to visit the group but don't feel like walking in to a group of strangers, please email us and we'll arrange to meet you before the meeting or look out for you on the day.
